I’m Lauren—

Please Don’t Call Me a Social Media “Guru”

I am a digital native who knows how to use marketing to create moments that engage critical audiences. Over my career, I’ve built my roles from the ground up — both in startups and professional sports.

😍 I’m obsessed with Fandom and how it can act as a business lever for customer and employee experience. 

🎧 My podcast, Brand to Fan Show, unpacks the phenomenon of fandom through conversations with business leaders, experts, and authors.

🎽♻️ I built FANWAGN as the home for #SecondFanFashion, where sports and college fans can buy and resell beloved apparel that represents their identity (and help reduce textile waste!) 

🔙 I was the original social media lead for the PGA TOUR, and I’ve spent 15+ years optimizing fan engagement in sports, B2B, B2C, healthcare, higher ed, and several more industries.

👩🏼‍💻 I’m Mom to three #TinyTeagues, serve as the President of National Speakers Association, and would like to reclaim my single digit ⛳️handicap someday soon.

Beloved brands are built with fans, not followers.

Fandom is a natural phenomenon. The desire to interact as part of social groups is intrinsic. Our social norms are defined by what we enjoy and the groups we identify with. Fandom is better when it’s shared.

But Brands don’t control the message in today’s creator culture. It is essential to shift away from vanity-based attention towards cultivating affinity among customers and employees, who share stories that become invitations.

The result is Actionable Affinity.

My Story

One of sports’ original social media reporters, I spent seven seasons as the voice of @PGATOUR, while transforming how professional golf connects with fans online.

I earned my consulting stripes with Convince & Convert Consulting, a respected group of advisors led by marketing expert and Hall of Fame speaker Jay Baer. Since 2015, I’ve supported clients through Teague FC (my own firm), Convince & Convert, and Brain+Trust Partners.

Marketing doesn’t have to be “icky” or tricky to work.

Brands and individual clients who need marketing strategy and training seek me out for authentic and straightforward support. We work together to create one-to-one connections with passionate fans and customers and develop key content marketing and social media strategies that are effective and measurable.

Working oneself out of a job isn’t for everyone, but it is how I know I’m succeeding with a client. When they have the confidence to take ownership of a strategy or content program I’ve built and taught them, they set sights on higher goals — and usually keep me on retainer to rent my brain.

Plenty of experience in wine bars, retail, fundraising, volunteer management, executive assistant and news production along the way.
My first job, though, was in the family Christmas trees fields in Clackamas County, Oregon.


Who is your favorite pga tour player?

During my seven seasons of thinking about golf and knowing the professional golfers on the PGA TOUR, I concluded they’re all my favorites.

After a few years removed, I’ve kept following a few of the players I enjoyed working with. When they’re on the leaderboard, I cheer for Rory McIlroy, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Scott Stallings, and (of course) Tiger Woods.


 

Where does Lauren Travel from? How far will she travel?

Living near Portland, Oregon, my travels originate from PDX airport (the best airport in the US!). I can get anywhere in North America (including Alaska and Hawaii) on two flights or less. I prefer to leave early in the morning and get home on a late-night flight to minimize the impact on my kids unless they get to go with me. My passport is current, and I am excited to speak internationally.


DOES LAUREN HAVE ANY ALLERGIES?

I eat a gluten-free diet for health reasons, and avoid gluten, wheat, soy sauce and conference cookies at all costs. My sweet tooth isn’t deprived, thanks to ice cream and gluten free cupcakes found in most cities.

I don’t eat beets, mushrooms, octopus, or melon. Gross.
